Calicut much like the rest of Kerala is beautiful with many interesting places offering a lot of opportunities for the tourists to explore. Manachira is at the heart of the city and surrounding it are many public building including the town hall and the public library. There is a large pond and a surrounding park. Manachira Square is the result of joining Tagore park, Ansari Park and a large ground. 250 lamp posts built in the colonial style adorn the Square. Manachira Square also has an artificial stream, an open air theatre and a musical stage along with a musical fountain. Beypore is located 10 km south to calicut and the place is famous for the ship building industry which makes the legendary ” URU”. On East Hill one can see the Art Gallery and the Krisna Menon Museum. the Lalitha Kala Academy is located adjacent to the Kozhikode Town Hall and is an art gallery. Kozhikode also boasts of a planetarium. The legendary Lokanarkavu is located km from Vadakara and is dedicated to the goddess Durga. Thusharagiri is a waterfall at a distance of 55 km from Calicut. Kozhippara waterfalls is located on the eastern side of the district and is a treat for trekkers. Peruvannamuzhi is noted as a dam site, boat service, bird sanctuary, and crocodile sanctuary. Another place of interest include the Kakkayam dam.
