calicut Calicut University established in the year has over 250 colleges affiliated to it. The University is headquartered at Thenjipalam in Malappuram district spread over a 40 acre campus. Most of the affiliated colleges are privately held. Dr.M.M.Ghani held the stewardship of the university during the early 70′s. The present vice-chancellor of the university is Prof. Anwar Jahan Zuberi formerly a professor of Aligarh Muslim University. T.K.Narayanan is the present registrar. T.P.Rajeevan the noted Malayalam poet is the the public relation officer. The university has some excellent departments in the subject of zoology, physics, botany and other allied subjects in the postgraduate department. A Cockroft-Walton particle accelerator was put on he campus in the 80′s. One of the biggest responsibilities of the University is the conduct of exams for the affiliate colleges numbering over 250. Pareeksha Bhavan is the branch of the university which looks into the matters regarding exams and award of certificates and is the largest organization of the university employing many people. Recently the university came heavily under the scanner for alleged corruptions and malpractices.
