State yet to make land available for Airports Authority of India. Due to the State government’s failure to allot land, the development of Calicut International Airport is being delayed. The State Government had to make available 55.44 hectares for various facilities that the Airports Authority of India (AAI) intended to set up at the airport. The land had not been handed over to the authority yet. The number of facilities including development of runway and changes in the domestic terminal building were added to the airport recently. The authority had given its approval for 12 emigration counters and conveyor belts. The option of extending the length of the conveyor belts was being examined to ease the congestion caused by passengers arriving at the airport. A proposal to increase the staff strength was being considered. Cargo complexes and apron were also to be built. But all these could happen only when more land was made available.
